Different Weather

Mindy Harris Sheeran was a twenty-seven-year-old like any other from the small Alaskan town. Everyone knew her as the graduate student studying botany who wouldn’t come out of her cabin unless she desperately needed something.

However, Mindy didn’t avoid people by choice. She had lived in Miami, Florida, and hadn’t grown accustomed to the Alaskan weather yet, especially the weather in December. But she would soon find out that the weather was the least of her worries.

Struggling To Acclimatize

Due to her studies, Mindy had moved so that she could research North American plant life. She was writing a paper that needed extensive data, which she thought best to get as accurate as possible.

She was initially delighted by the blizzards and freezing temperatures, but the environment had taken its toll by the fifth month of staying there. She longed for home and seemed irritated by everything, but meeting him would change that.

Reading The Paper

She had been out on her porch with a mug of cocoa in her hand when she saw him. She had spotted the older man shuffling across the street when looking up from the day’s paper. The heavy snow didn’t go unnoticed.

The man’s resilience showed when he pushed through it. She had been looking at the daily weather report and knew the blizzard was just beginning. That’s when she decided to do something out of character.

Mindy called out a greeting to the man and invited him into her home after he waved a greeting in return. She insisted that the weather was terrible and that he shouldn’t be walking in it.
