Man Pays For Lady’s Bill, Realizes Mistake When She Slips Him A Note

The Note

Kasey had already been having a bad day. He cleared the table and opened the folder. But where the tip should be, there was a note written on a napkin in red ink instead. “My mother did not need you to help her,” the note began. He was confused at first, but then everything became crystal clear.

Kasey Simmons from Dallas, Texas, was having one of those days. In fact, he would later say that it was one of the worst days of his career. He was working the dinner shift at the local Applebee’s when it became very apparent that the restaurant was short-staffed.

He tried to pick up the slack as best he could, but stemming the tide of customers was proving to be a losing battle. Then, she walked in.

The woman sat down with her family and waited for Kasey to take their drink orders. When he finally got around to her table, he was completely upfront about the situation. “Hey, my name’s Kasey,” he said, cracking a smile.

“I’m just letting you know that I am so far behind and I’m in the weeds right now.” He then told her that he would only be able to serve them in 45 minutes, and her face fell.

Kasey, trying desperately to placate the woman, offered to buy the table’s drinks. It really just wasn’t his day. With orders piling up and more customers entering Applebee’s, he was feeling more and more overwhelmed. Then, to make matters worse, the complaints started coming in.

People were unhappy with the speed at which they were being served.

Kasey was, after all, just one man. He looked over to another woman who was demanding his attention. There was no way that he would be able to serve all these tables by himself! That’s when he started to consider the unthinkable.

A calm little voice inside his head said: what if you just walked out right now? But as tempting as that option might have been, Kasey was in it for the long haul. Besides, he needed the money.
