Jean-Paul Gaultier’s Broken English Caused Confusion
Prince was originally offered the part of Ruby Rhod in the film “The Fifth Element,” on which Jean-Paul Gaultier was the costume designer. But, when Gaultier showed Prince his costume sketches for the character, his broken English lead the musician to think that Gaultier was being rude to him. Prince also disliked the costumes and thought that they were “too effeminate” for him.
