Gendry’s important because, other than him, House Baratheon is extinct. Robert, Stannis and Renly have all been killed. Even Cersei’s kids, widely thought to be Baratheons (but aren’t), are all dead anyway. Gendry, though a bastard, is the only Baratheon left. If he’s even still alive.
