The Music Director Opted for Soothing Music
Unlike some dramas and thrillers on television and film, the show’s music director and composer Jung Jae-il wanted to provide an eerie sense of comfort for viewers despite conveying a series of grim and deadly games with songs like Johaan Strauss II’s “The Blue Danube” and Frank Sinatra’s “Fly Me to the Moon.”
But half an hour into the pilot episode, the contestants are woken up by the final movement of Haydn’s Trumpet Concerto in E flat major. This piece becomes a bit of a theme throughout the show.
