Psycho (1960)
When we think of the 1950s, we tend to think of idyllic, suburban peace. And when we think of the 1960s, we tend to think of raucous, incendiary change. Is Alfred Hitchcock’s “Psycho,” released in 1960, directly responsible for this mass culture shift? Given its unprecedented levels of depicted violence, transgressive sexuality and narrative trickery, well, it definitely didn’t help soothe the situation.
