The scene where Lyndon B. Johnson gives Forrest the Medal of Honor for saving his platoon in Vietnam was actual footage from a 1986 ceremony where military soldier Sammy L. Davis got the medal. So, all the special effects team had to do was swap Davis’ face for Hanks.
