The Vietnam Scenes Weren’t Shot in ‘Nam
The scenes where Forrest was fighting in Vietnam were actually filmed off the coast of South Carolina on Fripp Island. To make it look more realistic, the crew used CGI to make it seem like Hanks and the other actors were stuck in a jungle in Vietnam.
