Hereditary’s score is exactly what’s expected from an “elevated” horror film. An unplaceable underlying noise throughout to build a sense of dread. Intermittent tonal crashes to accentuate the terror. Remember that scene in Forgetting Sarah Marshall where Peter talks about “dark, ominous tones?” It’s like that.
