She Filed For Divorce to Help Her Career

After four years of marriage, Norma filed for divorce from her husband Jimmy Dougherty in 1946. She did this partly because her agent told her that movie studios were reluctant to hire married women who would put their families ahead of their careers. By getting divorced, her agent was happy to send her to an interview at Twentieth Century Fox studios.
