The Silver Surfer debuted in 1966 as the herald of the world-eating Galactus. He was originally an astronomer, Norrin Radd, who agreed to be the Surfer in exchange for Galactus sparing his planet. Imbued with a galactic surfboard and metallic skin with the Power Cosmic. His powers include superhuman strength, endurance, and senses. He is able to absorb and manipulate energy from the universe, he can heal others and revitalize organic life. He is able to travel at light speed and even time travel with the use of his board.

The Silver Surfer is a creation of Jack Kirby, so it’s not really a surprise that when Kirby moved over to DC, he would create some similar characters. In this case, we have the Black Racer debuting in 1971. Black Racer is seen as a avatar of Death, where Silver Surfer is the Herald of Galactus and eminent death of a planet, but instead of a surfboard, the Black Racer rides around on cosmic skis. The skis allow Black Racer to travel at the speed of light and phase through objects. He possesses the ability to deliver a death stoke or instant death. Black Racer is also immortal and wears cosmic armor.
