After Ellie dies in Up, Carl keeps his promise to take her to Paradise Falls. Filling an entire house worth of balloons, he flies the house they lived in together to Paradise Falls. The aviator hat and goggles we see in the beginning are the same hat and goggles he wears later on with the boy scout sidekick, Russell.
