Let’s admit it, there aren’t many female rappers in the industry, so it’s clearly difficult for female musicians to rise above the ranks in the rap and hip hop category. One of the few successful female rappers of our time is Nicki Minaj. The fame she is receiving now could have belonged to Remy Ma, but unfortunately for her, she received six years in prison for a weapons and assault charge in 2008. Upon her release, she took a jab at Minaj by remixing the latter’s song, “Truffle Butter,” as a way to mock her for changing her style to catchy electro songs like “Superbass” and “Starships.” Remy was hell-bent on bringing down Minaj’s career, and in 2017, she dethroned the Superbass singer’s seven-year run as the Best Female Hip Hop Artist.
