Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, better known as Queen Elizabeth, The Queen Mother, was the wife of King George VI. When she married him in 1923, she instantly became a bridal icon. Her exquisite gown set a fashion trend. Its dropped waist and pearl and silver embellishments were hard to forget. The late royal also wore a very 1920s headpiece, which perfectly completed the look. It does not even come as a surprise that she actually turned King George VI down a couple of times before finally agreeing to marry him.
