Cruise had also been briefly married prior to meeting Kidman. In 1987, he married actress Mimi Rogers. Rogers was a Scientologist and introduced Cruise to the tenets and practices of Scientology, which would go on to have a big influence on Cruise’s life and career. Because of his marriage to Rogers, Cruise officially converted to Scientology. In 1990, he and Rogers divorced.
