As Cruise entered the new millennium, he was coming off the success of his performances in the dramas Eyes Wide Shut and Magnolia. His interest in producing, as well as his ability to perform some of his own stunts, resulted in his increasing interest in blockbuster action films. The success of the first Mission: Impossible film resulted in a sequel in 2000.
