Cruise met Spanish actress Penelope Cruz on the set of their 2001 film Vanilla Sky. Cruise and Cruz were in a relationship for three years before splitting. They never married. Allegedly, Cruise was so heavily involved in Scientology at this point that the Church of Scientology made efforts to find him a “suitable” new romantic partner following his split with Cruz.
