Let’s say you’re a fan of Buffy The Vampire Slayer and her propensity to, well, slay vampires. Let’s say you tune in to season six episode “Once More, With Feeling” to watch some good old-fashioned vampire slaying, only to find a full-blown old Hollywood musical episode. How would you react? The episode has gone on to be considered one of the series’ best, but it’s not hard to imagine a casual fan’s shock at this radical stylistic departure.
