I used the word “pristine” when I was discussing backing up some files in an office meeting with my boss, as in, “the files will be in pristine condition.” My boss’s reaction was truly unbelievable. He got so angry.

He thought I was making the word up. Said he’d never heard of that word before, and told me not to use made-up words in a meeting or I’d be written up.
