Every Year There Are Thousands of “Icequakes”
Seismic sensors in Antarctica detect many small earthquakes beneath the ice, but many of them are so small that they can’t even be detected by humans. For many years, scientists didn’t know why these quakes happened until they discovered that it was ice melting and re-freezing that caused the tiny tremors, and could even effect larger sheets of ice.
