Islands of Lost Souls (1932)
Island of Lost Souls was so effective it was banned in England while causing (in part) censorship in Hollywood in the form of The Hays Code. Critics were horrified (and not in a good way) by the film, but it was a major hit. The film is an adaptation of HG Wells The Island of Dr. Moreau and featured the brilliant Charles Laughton alongside horror legend Bela Lugosi.
