Jess was shocked that the bartender had given her a drink. She wondered if maybe her dad had only been joking. But then she saw that Bill was at the bar smiling at her. Bill had asked the bartender to give Jess a drink as well. Jess appreciated Bill’s small act of kindness. But she was still stung by her dad’s remark.
