Although Jess saw the whole thing as funny and a bit ridiculous, her family was genuinely offended. They thought Jess was purposefully rebelling against them because she hated them. Her newly professed love for the Red Sox hurt their feelings. Jess tried to say that the whole thing was no big deal but they didn’t see it that way.
