The Legacy of William Chappell
One of the most prominent researchers in the history of the Oak Island mystery is William Chappell. The man was originally part of the Oak Island Treasure Company and was one of the first people to find gold on the island; traces of it during an 1897 excavation. Chappell’s brother Renerick carried on the search with son Melbourne and nephew Claude. However, they struggled, not being able to locate the Money Pit properly.
