Teaching Him A Lesson
My grandfather was a decent guy. He was well-known, and everybody loved him. My cousin and I usually spent our afternoons helping him out, and he asked us to go with him to the store. There were a lot of poorer families in my town, and we spotted one of them in the store. My cousin then made a remark regarding their financial situation and questioned why they were even in the store in the first place.
My grandfather, who was one of the nicest people I know, then pushed him against a wall and said, “Nothing in your life elevates you above them. I’d rather have them with me right now than you.” He forced my cousin to go and apologize to the family, and he told them that my cousin would pay for their groceries. That cousin went on to become an excellent social worker with a focus on poverty and rehabilitation.
