Ivanka was evidently not the only Ukrainian adoptive child in the neighborhood. Her English was a little shaky, and it would take some time for her to correctly grasp the language before she could fully integrate into society. The adoption agency urged her to interact with other Ukrainian children during this time.

As a result, the Barnetts took Ivanka to a local daycare center where she could play and mix with other Ukrainian youngsters. And what happened after that was utterly perplexing to them.
