The house, as it turned out, was built in 1915 by an enigmatic real estate dealer known around the Mohawk Valley as “Count”” Adolph Humpfner, dubbed by locals and newspapers as “The Mystery Man of the Mohawk Valley.” It was rumored that he was an unsavory character who possibly had ties to none other than the Mafia.
