One week later, Angie noticed that Robert was spending a lot of time in the yard, but wouldn’t exactly tell her why. She knew that he liked gardening, but not this much. It was a sunny afternoon when Angie had gone out shopping, and Robert was busy baking a fresh apple pie to surprise her when she got home. If one or more people were in the house, Robert was more lax about locking the doors and windows. He had always felt safe and didn’t think he’d need to be vigilant. But just as he sat down to watch television while the pie cooked, he heard the sound of glass smashing.
