Standing Their Ground
There were a few people standing in the doorway, but it was the one who had answered the door that told John they had nowhere else to go. After living there for a while, they had legal rights to stay in the house, and wouldn’t voluntarily leave. The unsaid threat hung in the air between the squatters and John and the bikers. The only way they’d leave would be with force. Once again, John tried to reason with them, but they were no longer interested in anything he had to say, and the tension grew between the two groups.
