A Minute Too Late
Despite his best efforts, John pulled up to the office a minute too late. He threw his door open without even turning his car off, but the clerks were already cleaning up and turning off the lights in the office. John pressed his forehead to the glass and sighed defeatedly. This was his chance at finally getting his house back, and he had missed it by three blocks. He heard an engine behind him and turned around just to see the car that had followed him drive off. They had gotten exactly what they wanted.
