Despite the buckets of water, the whale was barely alive. When a creature that lives in the ocean isn’t able to return to the ocean, its vitality will soon fade.
The whale may tire itself by attempting to move around too much, which was another issue. It followed that the more energy it consumed, the quicker it might grow dehydrated and die.
