Mixed emotions
John realized that she was speaking the truth, and he didn’t know how to feel. He didn’t know whether he wanted to laugh or cry, so he did both. He didn’t know whether he wanted to be happy or angry with Sandra, but he just hugged her. This cannot have been easy for her either.
