The cemetery was raised up
Thankfully, this is the first successful effort at redeveloping the region after many previous ones had failed. The city had raised the majority of the cemetery plots and planned the layout to minimize the effects of floods and other natural disasters on the city’s cemeteries and the people buried there. Among the raised slabs, fortunately, was Gladys’ grave. Thanks to this, the Kangal were able to stay put in the mostly deserted cemetery.
