A final resting place was imminent.
The rescuers were alarmed by the prospect of the hole leading directly to the casket six feet below earth. Being that close to a coffin of an unknown individual was eerie in and of itself. As a result, several of the rescuers began to retreat from the gravesite once they realized what had been discovered.
