Neither Charged Nor Barked
True to Betty’s expectations, the dog neither charged nor barked at her. It snarled briefly before sniffing the air around her.
Surprisingly, it whined and redirected its attention back to the scared boy, who Betty observed to be no more than eight years old. In a calming tone, Betty spoke to the dog, urging it to quiet down.
Puzzled by the canine’s antagonistic behavior towards the young boy, Betty had no inkling of the unforeseen situation she was about to immerse herself in.
