Scanning the bill, Walter noticed that all Ruth had ordered was her usual pot of tea. It wasn’t an expensive item, and because he knew Ruth had a lot on her mind, he simply canceled the charge.
He didn’t think it was a big deal; it had just slipped her mind. It wasn’t a regular occurrence.
The waiter happily agreed with Walter and thought to add the unpaid bill to the wall with all the other memories.
