Finally Answering
Much to his surprise, Ruth finally answered. Walter relaxed as relief washed over him, and he soon launched into an explanation of that fateful night’s events. But none of it seemed to matter to Ruth.
It was the first time in his thirty years of knowing her that Ruth had ever seemed withdrawn. Walter suspected that he knew the reason why.
So, he inquired about her health. Her reply compelled him to take action.
