Employers Share Moments They Had To Fire A Person On The First Day

52. Heard It Clear

I ran a wood shop and had a zero-tolerance policy about eye protection. There was a safety contract stating, “I understand that if I’m caught violating safety procedures, I will be fired.”

A good, polite kid was hired, understood and signed the agreement, and went to work. Coming back from my boss’s office, I could hear another employee.

Employee:  Dude, you gotta get your goggles on,

New Hire: Fudge that guy. I know what I’m doing. If he comes in here, I’ll just put em on real quick. He can’t fire me.

I paraphrased, but close enough. I fired him. Ha ha.
