American sprinters Tommie Smith and John Carlos raised their fists in the air in this 1968 photos during the Olympics in Mexico. Smith was a gold medalist while Carlos was a bronze medalist, whose gestures were made during the national anthem to shatter the belief that there was equality in a time when there was hardly any.
