Infected Cuts
The only items they had to shave with were straight razors. Cowboys kept them for defense purposes.
To give themselves a shave away from a barber was possible but difficult, but if they accidentally cut themselves, infections were a serious problem. Soap and shampoo wouldn’t help either, but for different reasons.
