Facial hair was common and whenever men would have a frothy drink, such as beer, they would be left with soaked beards.
Barkeepers made sure to keep a towel or two around for this specific reason. Men would use it to wipe their drinks from their facial hair. And these weren’t being cleaned very often. But there was one thing that couldn’t come out.
