In the end, one fireman crawled down on his stomach and reached into the murky sewage. His gloved fingers reached into the trashy, muddy pit and found the writhing corpse of a little creature. He pulled himself up from the drain and gently set the little animal down on the white blanket that had been prepared. Once the animal was clearly visible in bright light, he had no doubts about what they were facing.
