The firemen were embarrassed because they had been so certain they had discovered pups. The vet, though, reassured them that this was a common mistake. Since foxes are canines, their newborn appearance is very similar to that of a dog. The fact that newborn foxes often had black fur before changing to their mature orange hue also didn’t assist their cause. Nobody could have predicted that!
