A Good Excuse
It’s impossible to debate with kids who can eloquently justify themselves and excuse their lethargy. One young girl devised such a fantastic excuse for not doing her homework that her teacher couldn’t help but admire her.
“We had a writing assignment about Thanksgiving when I was teaching first grade. The students were required to draw and write about a picture of their family celebrating Thanksgiving. The table and seats were drawn by one tiny girl, and that was the end of it. I knew she didn’t want to complete the work, so I attempted to persuade her to do it. “They’re cleaning the dishes,” she yelled back when I questioned where the food and her family were. I had to commend her for coming up with a plausible justification for not performing the task!”
