Turning Red
After being caught not focusing in class, one student flipped the situation around. The teacher’s face turned reddish with shame as a result of their actions. It only demonstrates what can be accomplished with rapid thinking.
“Because people will presume I’m a man, I’ll state that I’m a woman. I worked as a teacher in a low-income neighborhood. We were discussing prime numbers, so I had the kids give me a number and we would work out on the board whether or not it was a prime number. One of the students, a young teacher, was not paying attention. I was hoping to catch him off surprise and summon him. “Marc, do you have a phone number?” it was something like that. “Huh,” says the narrator, “I need your phone number.” “Keep your cool, girl. After class, we may discuss.” The entire room burst out laughing, and I blushed from shame. They then made a joke about how red I had turned.”
