No Buttons
Unexpectedly, one regulation states that buttons are not permitted. Among the Amish, they are seen as ostentatious and unnecessary.
Because women are “not expected to fall into temptation,” buttons are off-limits. The idea is that a button makes it too simple to remove an article of clothing. The possibility of it opening up is just too great. In the heat of a romance, passions may run high and actions postponed until marriage may be considered tempting.
