Women in Switzerland Didn’t Get the Right to Vote Until After People Walked on the Moon
Women in America got the right to vote when the 19th Amendment to the Constitution was ratified in 1920, but the battle for equal rights was still being fought around the world. Even as technology advanced enough to send men to the moon during the Apollo 11 mission in 1969, women in Switzerland were still fighting for this right. Although some Swiss women could vote in local elections previously, it wasn’t until 1971 that men voted for all Swiss women to get the right to vote.
