Philani Dladla was born and raised in Kwa-Zulu Natal, South Africa. Philani’s family, like so many others, was a victim of South Africa’s notoriously wide economic inequalities.
Philani was a bright student who enjoyed reading, but his potential appeared bound to stagnate because his family couldn’t afford to enroll him in university. Even as a young guy, Philani had to make a difficult decision.
