At the time, the Russian people were riddled with fear and worry about their future and the future of their nation. Many people rejected Vissarion straight away but others were desperate for something to believe in. People worried for him. He was rejected immediately but over time people needed something to believe in, and he was there.
This meant that Torop’s “Church of the Last Testament” was born to show hope in a dark time.
