Thomas soon earned a promotion at his job, which sadly meant that he would be traveling more often. It really started to seem like he had a choice to make between having a happy wife or a successful career, and he continued to focus on the latter, because he believed that his wife would stay by his side no matter what. Iris was not happy that her husband continued to make her feel isolated and alone by not keeping in touch with her on his long trips, and that quickly made her lose faith in their relationship.
